Are you a fan of visiting cool pop-ups in New York City? Then you must visit the Garment District in January. A whole block on Broadway has been transformed into an outdoor winter playground.
The Garment District has a very cool interactive art installation called Impulse. The corner between 37th and 38th Streets has been closed off to traffic and now has 12 huge seesaws that radiate with lights and sounds, creating a beautiful light show in the heart of the city.
The seesaws can seat up to four people and range in length from 16 to 24 feet. This Winter Garden is free for everyone and so much fun not just for kids, but adults too!
Impulse uses ideas of repetition and variation to produce an area of intensity and calm. The seesaws are motion-activated, so they start lighting up with different illuminations and calming musical sounds to create a stunning light show on the streets.

As you get close to this corner on Broadway, you’ll see lots of people taking pictures and enjoying the rides. I personally enjoyed it so much, because I don’t remember the last time I’ve been a seesaw, let alone on the streets of Midtown with the beautiful lights and sounds.
The installation is part of Garment District Art on the Plazas, a year-round public art program made possible through the NYC DOT’s Art Program and the Public Space Unit’s Seasonal Streets program.
This post was sponsored by the Garment District of New York, but as always all opinions are my own.
